Thursday, March 23, 2017 - Updated: 9:17 AMThe 2016-17 season is a 50-50 proposition so far for new MCHS softball coach Tyson Bormann’s squad.
After an impressive 10-0, four hit shutout over Murray in Massac’s opener, the girls played Ballard Memorial and the Lady Bombers returned the favor exactly with a four hit, 10-0 shutout of their own.
Taylor Jenkins and Peyton Pierce were the offensive stars in the win over Murray with Jenkins going three for four with three runs scored and Pierce getting a pair of knocks and driving in three runs. Ellie Weber allowed four hits and struck out eight for the win.
In the loss to Ballard, Massac fell victim to some leaky gloves on defense, committing a handful of errors and putting Paige Box and Weber squarely on the spot in the circle. Ballard only scored three earned runs in the win but with Massac’s bats sounding eerily like crickets, the three were more than enough.
Massac travels to Graves County on Thursday.
