Thursday, February 09, 2017 - Updated: 8:47 AMWhile the Lady Rangers’ season ended Monday night at Meridian in first round regional play, the boys are still on the floor before entering regional play in mid-February.
Dongola ended the ladies season Monday night with a 52-26 win over Joppa. Senior Hailey Kendall set the career Joppa scoring record as she ended up with 1970 points.
Last Saturday was Joppa’s homecoming and the boys rebounded from a 29 point, 97-68 whipping at Meridian with a hard fought 61-54 over Thompsonville.
At Meridian, the Rangers got enough offense as they had three players in double figures with Hunter Johnson having a big night with 21.
Thomas Kendall and Kaleb Cox added 12 and 11 respectively but the Bobcats dropped 12 three pointers on them and scored virtually at will.
JaQuan Jones tossed in 33 points to spearhead the Meridian offense.
Behind a 24-8 first quarter, the Bobcats got out quickly before Joppa stormed back to get close early in the second quarter. But things went south from there.
The homecoming win over Thompsonville was looking like a blowout early as Joppa led 31-14 at halftime, but Thompsonville clawed back outscoring Joppa 40-30 in the second half for the final of 61-54.
Kendall had a monster evening for Joppa with 30 points with Johnson and Cox adding 12 and 11.
