Thursday, March 30, 2017 - Updated: 12:18 PM“A tie is a tie, but it was still a good game.”
Lady Patriots soccer coach Brock Frazier stated after Murphy’s terrific freshman Lillie Schaldemose scored her fourth goal of the game on a somewhat controversial rebound shot with 26 seconds left on the game clock.
Patriot goalie Hanna Lewis couldn’t quite get a handle on the loose ball in Massac’s goal and Schaldemose nudged the ball in for the tie.
Frazier commented that Lewis thought she had possession of the ball, but the referee didn’t see it. Neither team could get much going early until Jessica Hunt and Taylor Williams got Massac untracked. The dynamic duo combined for all of Massac’s scoring with Williams notching her seventh goal of the year on a three score day.
Massac had a chance to put it away when they kept possession of the ball for over a minute with just a little over two minutes on the clock but couldn’t get off a shot before Schaldemose’s heroics salvaged the tie for Murphy.
